I was driving my son to daycare and when we arrived I heard a ding. I looked at the "Check Gauge" light was on. I looked and noticed that the temp gauge was at H so I turned my van off and brought my son in. I popped the hood and put water in the coolant reservoir and I started the car. I began driving and I got maybe 800 ft before the car stopped working. I shut it of and tried to turn the engine over but nothing. I checked the oil level and it is low. Will adding oil help the engine turn over?

It makes a noise like it wants to turn over but doesn't. I don't know much about cars. The only other car I had was a nissan quest that died 5 months after I bought it due to a timing belt issue. It wasn't cold water it was warm water. The check engine light comes on when I turn the ignition key
You don't add cold water to a hot motor!
WTF does "nothing" mean? No starter cranking the motor over? No gauge lights come on?
