I'm a boat guy, I'm really into boats but I'm not into tuning and fixing. I bought a 06' stingray 180rx. It came with a 3.0L 135 horse volvo penta. I was wondering how to change spark plugs and the oil on this boat? Could you please tell me and if you could the part numbers and type of oil? I wanna upgrade to high performance spark plugs for extra speed. Thanks
I'm a marine mechanic, I'm Volvo certified as well as other makes. Changing Spark plugs isn't recommended. or even necessary. You will not gain anything, and it's possible that you can cause issues.
I've used Synthetic oils in my personal volvo engines for a long time now. I started in 1987, have not used anything else since. I use my boat in the winter months so I run 10 W 40. I've thought about 20 W 50 but so far I haven't made the switch.
Some years ago I turbocharged my Mercruiser I/O and was very pleased with the result however the cost was a lot even back then. I'm not sure I would do it again today. My current engines are Marine Power EFI and computer controlled. I like them very much. Your 3.0L is a very good design and One of the most fuel efficient of any of the current marine engine.
